Ireland recently announced its joining of a lawsuit filed by South Africa against “Israel” at the International Court of Justice, accusing the occupying state of committing genocide. In response to this bold and courageous stance by the Irish government, “Israel” has decided to close its embassy in the capital, Dublin.
The Israeli occupying government is facing the consequences of Ireland’s involvement in the lawsuit against it at the International Court of Justice. Media sources in the occupying state confirmed that Israel’s foreign minister, Gidi’on Saar, issued an order to close the embassy in Dublin. This decision came after the escalation of tensions between the two sides, when Ireland accused the occupying government of committing genocide in Gaza and announced its support for the lawsuit against “Israel” in The Hague.
Ireland’s courage and determination are growing, which could indicate that it will take more decisive steps in the future. There is a possibility that Ireland will sever diplomatic ties with the occupying state, in response to the wishes of the majority of Irish society and political forces that strongly support the Palestinian cause and oppose the British policy favoring “Israel.”
In this context, the Lebanese television channel Al-Mayadeen published statements by the Irish Prime Minister, Simon Harris, in October 2024, in which he stated that his country would not wait for the other EU states to take action against Israeli extremist settlers. This statement was made during a government meeting in Dublin.
Except for the positions of Spain, Ireland, Slovenia, Armenia, and Norway outside the EU, as well as the position of Mr. Borrell, the former head of EU foreign policy, the remaining EU states are biased towards the occupying state or collaborate with it and the Americans and Germans, or are cowardly and unable to express a stance against the crimes and terrorism of the occupation, despite people across Europe taking to the streets every day to express their rejection of genocide and solidarity with the Palestinian people.
