Berlinale World Cinema Fund: Aktuelle Förderempfehlungen
In der 28. Jurysitzung des Berlinale World Cinema Fund (WCF) haben die Jurys insgesamt 13 Förderempfehlungen ausgesprochen.
Für Produktionsförderung wurden fünf Filmprojekte aus Brasilien, Chile, Mexiko, Syrien und Vietnam vorgeschlagen. Im zusätzlichen Förderprogramm WCF Europe gingen drei Empfehlungen im Bereich Produktion an Projekte aus Ägypten, Costa Rica und Kambodscha. Für das Sonderprogramm WCF Africa wurden zwei Projekte zur Förderung empfohlen: eines aus Südafrika, eines aus Somalia.
Drei Empfehlungen wurden für Verleihförderung ausgesprochen: WCF Europe Verleihförderung für den argentinischen Film Zama von Lucrecia Martel, für den Kinostart des Filmes in Deutschland, Polen, Portugal und der Türkei sowie WCF Verleihförderung für den deutschen Kinostart von Candelaria von Jhonny Hendrix Hinestroza (Kolumbien/Kuba) und Las herederas von Marcelo Martinessi (Paraguay), der auf der vergangenen Berlinale mit dem Silbernen Bären für die beste Darstellerin und dem Silbernen Bären Alfred-Bauer-Preis ausgezeichnet wurde.
Unter den Förderempfehlungen befinden sich zwei Projekte von Berlinale Talents-Alumni sowie ein Film, der auf der Suche nach Ko-Produzent*innen am Berlinale Co-Production Market teilgenommen hatte.
Damit hat der WCF seit seiner Gründung im Oktober 2004 Produktions- bzw. Verleihförderung an insgesamt 196 Projekte unter 3.448 Einreichungen aus Afrika, Lateinamerika, dem Nahen/Mittleren Osten, Zentral- und Südostasien, dem Kaukasus sowie den Ländern Mongolei, Nepal, Bangladesch, Pakistan und Sri Lanka vergeben. Alle bisher produzierten WCF-Filme liefen im Kino und/oder in den Programmen renommierter internationaler Filmfestivals und belegen den weltweiten Erfolg der Initiative.
Produktions- und Verleihförderung
Die WCF-Jury traf ihre Auswahl aus 203 eingereichten Projekten aus insgesamt 51 Ländern. Die Förderempfehlungen umfassen Fördermittel in Höhe von 416.000 €.
Mitglieder der Jury sind die Produzentin und Verleiherin Hania Mroué (Libanon), die Dokumentarfilmproduzentin Marta Andreu (Spanien), der Verleiher und Produzent Jan De Clercq (Belgien) sowie der WCF-Projektleiter Vincenzo Bugno. Hinzu kommen als Juroren für WCF Africa der Journalist, Filmkritiker, Schriftsteller und Schauspieler Jahman Oladejo Anikulapo (Nigeria) und die Berlinale-Delegierte für Subsahara-Afrika Dorothee Wenner (Deutschland).

Berlinale World Cinema Fund: Latest Funding Recommendations
At the 28th jury session of the World Cinema Fund (WCF), the juries recommended contributing to the funding of 13 film projects.
Five film projects – from Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Syria and Vietnam – have been proposed for production funding. Within the framework of the additional funding programme, WCF Europe, three recommendations were also announced for the production of projects from Egypt, Costa Rica and Cambodia. For the special programme WCF Africa, two more projects have been recommended for funding: one from South Africa and one from Somalia.
Three recommendations have been made for distribution funding: WCF Europe distribution funding for the Argentinian film Zama by Lucrecia Martel, for its release to cinemas in Germany, Poland, Portugal and Turkey; as well as WCF distribution funding for the German cinema release of Candelaria by Jhonny Hendrix Hinestroza (Colombia / Cuba) and Las herederas by Marcelo Martinessi (Paraguay), which received the Silver Bear for Best Actress and the Silver Bear Alfred Bauer Prize at the last Berlinale.
Among the funding recommendations are two projects by Berlinale Talents alumni, as well as a film that in the search for co-producers once participated in the Berlinale Co-Production Market.
Since its establishment in October 2004, the WCF has awarded production and distribution funding to a total of 196 projects chosen from 3,448 submissions from Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, Central and Southeast Asia, the Caucasus, as well as from the countries Mongolia, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. All WCF-funded films produced to date have screened in cinemas and/or the programmes of renowned international film festivals, and are evidence of the initiative’s worldwide success.
Production and Distribution Funding
The WCF jury made their selection based on 203 submissions from a total of 51 countries. Their funding recommendations amount to 416,000 euros.
The jury members are producer and distributor Hania Mroué (Lebanon), documentary producer Marta Andreu (Spain), distributor and producer Jan De Clercq (Belgium), and WCF project manager Vincenzo Bugno. For WCF Africa, they are joined by the additional jurors Jahman Oladejo Anikulapo (Nigeria), a journalist, film critic, author and actor; and Dorothee Wenner (Germany), the Berlinale delegate to Sub-Saharan Africa.
