The Moral and Political Death of Zionism – Mazin Qumsiyeh
I think if you make the wrong diagnosis of what ails us as society, you can
be treating symptoms and delaying treating etiological factors. Only by
making a correct diagnosis we start to understand current symptoms (like
water and environmental justice issues), potential outcomes, therapy etc.
(this is from my medical background).
Zionism, as a form of colonialism, does not want natives seeks to separate
the Palestinian people from their lands to create a new reality. It wants
maximum geography with minimum demography and has no fixed borders. That is
another reason why Israel should not be recognized as a state (besides the
fact that it was admitted to the UN only on condition of respect for
previous resolutions including return of refugees INGA 194 and borders as
per UNGA 181). Staying our lands is in itself an act of resistance. We
instinctively resist, it’s a biological, natural process. Many pay heavy
price and over 700,000 Palestinians spent time in Israeli jails and tens of
thousands were martyred and 300,000 injured. Just the last four weeks, 15
Palestinians were martyred and 1500 abducted and jailed including 400
children.
I am very optimistic that Zionism will end, maybe after the next (14th)
uprising! If we make the right diagnosis (colonialism) we need to look at
the history of the outcomes of anti-colonial struggles in other countries
(which are most of the world). There are three possible scenarios for such
struggles:
1) The Algerian model (Defeat and return of colonizers, relative win for
the natives). Very costly (one million Algerian lives lost) and very rare
and will not happen in Palestne
2) The Australian model (relative win for the colonizers). Very costly
(genocide of the native required).
3) The “rest of the world” model (coexistence in one country). You can
call it win-win or lose-lose. Think South America, Central America, Canada,
South East Asia, South Africa etc. One shared state.
Those who claim the “left Zionism” (an oxymoron) camp and their Palestinian
collaborators who abandoned liberation for Vichy-style government positions
are still trying to invent a mythical fourth way which does not exist in
reality. They want to give us the illusion that normalization activities
and building walls can make a difference to arrive at an outcome of “two
states for two people”. Please see my 2004 book for fuller arguments
showing that this is a mirage invented by Ben Gurion for propaganda and to
give time to colonization available online:
